‘Kolibri’. KolibriOS developer team makes use of a central SVN source code repository. KolibriOS is a fork of MenuetOS, written almost entirely in FASM.
Introduced in 2004, Kolibri is a smallest GUI operating device. It is named after enormous avian Colibri. It is tiny yet very powerful OS. Kolibri is the open source operating system that fits under 1.44 MB floppy disks. It takes less than 3 sec to boot. It is pre-emptive multitasking. The latest released version was 0.7.7.0+ on October 1, 2014.
Key Features of KolibriOS
Its key feature is to provide multitasking, USB support, Media Playback, Drivers for sound, network and graphics cards, graphic editor and many more. It is available in Russian, Spanish, Italian and English. Kolibri read many file systems including FAT32, NTFS, and EXT3/4. It has only two version, first is 1.44 MB and then 3 MB with additional features. You can also change system settings to your liking, mount and unmount devices and change drivers.
One can easily boot into it via CD, floppy disk or DVD. In kolibriOS application is compressed to form it a lightweight operating system. Due to this it cannot perform a heavy task and support a variety of software that is available in MAC, windows, etc. But it can perform a basic task like Text Editor, Email etc. It consists of a HTTP client to surf the internet.
The system requires 8 MB of RAM, i586 compatible CPU requirements, USB flash, a keyboard, and mouse as well. Well, it’s not competent to multi-hundred megabyte system or their function, but manages to deliver a reasonable supply for programs. It supports hardware like for audio – Intel High Definition Audio support for certain motherboards and video – AMD, ATI, and Intel chipsets.’
